Returning to Pentax w/ the K-1

Hi Folks,

After a few years away, I pulled the trigger and returned to Pentax with the K-1.

It's funny about the size of it....my first digital was the K10D, then I got the K7, the K01 (better sensors, smaller form factor), and then jumped to M4/3 with the Panny GH2, then GH4 (smaller, mirrorless, video strengths).

However, I longed for better photo resolution with the GH4 and so looked forward to the GH5 release (better low light, stabilized sensor, better video potential), maybe the Oly 1 mk 2, but when I found out that those suckers were going to be $2k...the K-1 got so much more intriguing.

K-1 feels same sized as the K10d did. K-1 + D FA 24-70/2.8 is some heft! Looking forward to lugging this sucker around. And when I can't, the K-1 + DA40XS works a treat together.

DA40XS Brindle dog test (cropped to minimize the background clutter). f/5.6 200 iso

D FA 24-70 @ f/2.8 2500 iso (sorry, not used to 2500 iso, it's a big deal to me, the noise grain looks nice too)

Welcome back! If you care about compactness, I can also recommend the DFA 28-105mm. As unappealing as the variable aperture might be at first sight, it's a stellar lens and a great value.

Thanks Adam. I looked at the DFA 28-105 as my first lens for this guy, but felt that if I'm going big, I'd go big (not DFA* big, but big enough).

Just noticed I need to amend my sig.

Is there a better feeling than getting to groove with a new camera?

And my new Rokinon 85/1.4. I am trying to train myself to stay away from f/1.4. Here's f/2.2 with the plane falling almost perfect on brindle dog's face.

But it is nice to have f/1.4 - here's specimen dog almost perfectly still at f/1.4 1 second, impossibly illuminated by kitchen bulbs and fill from the TV.

Thanks.
We thought she was a Pharaoh mix and got her dna tested. Turns out she wasn't.
She's 1/2 Pit Bull, 1/4 husky, 1/8 Malamute, 1/8 German Shepherd.

DA40xs and some flashes at f/5.6

I was a bit disappointed to find vignetting on the F-DA 24-70. Here at 55mm f/2.8.
