Hmmm... people cover their hotshoe... Interesting.
Have you taken your camera out into heavy rain without a hotshoe cover? How did it go?

Why is that a surprise? I remembered my Sony, my Pentax SLR came with hotshoe cover as well! Even viewfinder cap! It's just not silver in color that's all.

Accessories are like charms.. I even put bunch of cellphone charms on the camera just for the personality.

Nope. But there is a use there for those that might. Good point.

I know they come with it. Just never saw or had a use for it. Now I know there are some for some.

It will come in handy. For the plastic one came with my pentax SLRs they are very useful. Basically they designed some bumps on the cap, so it allows you to use finger to "PUSH" out the cap by giving more friction. These bumps are taller than the hot shoe itself. So basically when your gear is unprotect in the camera bag, the hot shoe will not use it's sharp edges to "scratch your gears". I had once didn't have cover, the hot shoe basically scrapped my lens barrel

I found it more as a functional piece than cosmetic really.

I've got one here as a spare part, the cover does nothing to enhance the seal.

On my old PZ20, the hot shoe cover also had a little nubbin that would fit in the recessed film rewind button.

Not so useful now, but I've held on to most of mine...

Wow, I was just thinking, "How can I add a touch of subtle elegance to my K-1?"

I generally don't want my camera to look really "tough and professional", but adding a hotshoe cover, a cool camera strap, adding a lens hood to the lenses that didn't come with one will really change the "look" of the camera. People will perceive it differently
