F-- when setting aperture on the lens

I have just purchased a Samyang F1.4/35mm lens. If I put the lens aperture into `A` mode then I can control it from the K1 and it all works well.

If I then change the aperture on the lens, I get an `F--` message and I can't take any photos.

I can understand that the camera body doesn't know what the aperture has been set to, but is there anyway that I can override this so that I can take photos aperture. I mean, it doesn't need to know the aperture does it?

TD;LR

Set the aperture ring back to A
Put the camera in Av mode
Turn the rear e-dial to change the aperture

There really is no point in using the aperture ring, as stop-down metering can be less accurate than when the camera knows the aperture.

You can also change the aperture on the fly while in P mode- just turn the rear e-dial and you will override the camera's aperture choice.

Thanks everyone, that worked great.

@Adam, you're right, there is no real point in it and it's easier to use the e-dial because I can then see the set aperture in the viewfinder. It was more, just out of interest.
