Pentax K1 WiFi???

Brothers I lament that my Pentax K1 may be broken, any ideas what could be going wrong? I turn the WiFi on and it immediately turns off again. It says it's on in the menu but I can't find any signal for it. Thanks!

The use of WI-FI is fully explained on page 88 of the K-1 manual, including situations when WI-FI is disabled.

Which Firmware are you using? Maybe a newer version will fix it. My K-1 doesn't mock me like that, gladly.

I would suggest you retry the experiment with the camera set to Auto or Program mode so as to ensure you've not set something in your U5 mode that is forcing WiFi off.

I agree with Mark. Plus I would also consider Resetting your Wifi settings in your menu options. I seem to recall my Wifi doing this but for the life of me, I can't recall what caused the problem. Let us know how it goes. BTW, it can't hurt to update your firmware. I just did mine this AM.

Maybe an obvious question but is there a server that it can access and does it meet the K-1 requirements?

Bob, the way cameras with wifi work is that they become the wifi 'server', the phone or tablet the client.

I'd do a full reset of your settings, Ben. Maybe it's Auto Power Off stopping it, maybe something else. But until you do, you won't know if your problem's hardware or not.

That helps. Does that mean that I could pull up my K-1 on my computer via a local router?

No, the K-1 becomes a self-contained WiFi hotspot.

Naturally. How else could this work in the street or on a cliff overlooking a beach?

Here's a related question: could I use a HooToo Wireless Router connected by a USB cable to a portable hard drive to copy K-1 photos via K-1's wireless system WITHOUT using a computer, iPad or computer?

How would you control the copying process, without tablet, phone or computer - ie send commands to the camera or the router?

The camera itself doesn't have network file transfer capability built into it's own software. You need apps to talk to it.

NB: it would be remiss of this K-1 WiFi thread not to include a mention of Andreas' Pentax WiFi Commander software:

No. The K-1 acts as a hotspot, so you have to use a device where you can enter the SSID and password to enter the K-1 WiFi.
But you can use an smartphone.

You can also take a look at tis table:
