K-1 is in good company. The K-01 won the same award in 2012.

One thing they don't get a design award for (from me) is their web site.

Why am I forced to scroll vertically through hundreds of designs in order to get to the one I am interested in? Why no thumbnail overview of all the designs? Why not even any sorting of the designs via alphabetical order or category? And why no search?

Yea, technically the german-design-award website is odd.
But there's a search option

Probably designed with mobile devices. This seems to be the current style. Take a look at the Instagram website to see your follow updates for instance.

Wireless providers want you to use bandwidth and smartphone users seem to love swiping through page after page after page.

I find it interesting that one of the first things mentioned in the award is about the grip. A friend brought over his D810 a few weeks ago, and I just didn't like the way it felt in my hand, and in my opinion, the overall grip and ergonomics were really lacking compared to my K1. The K1 feels great in the hand, and secure. I have no issue holding the camera with one hand and moving around while taking pictures. The D810 felt like I just barely had enough grip to hold on to. So, it would seem my impressions were not without basis. Always nice to have a sanity check when you know you probably have a bit of bias to what's in hand (yes, bad pun intended...)

The category in which the K-1 won the award seems odd to me: "Entertainment". Are they implying that the K-1 isn't a professional tool, but merely a recreational device? Are the flagship DSLRs of Canon and Nikon in the "Entertainment" category?

Ah, I see it now. But [browsing on a PC] as soon as you scroll down the landing page even a tiny bit, the whole gold menu disappears from view, and stays disappeared, even as you load more entries. Hence I lost the search icon and the 'filter projects' drop-down menu as soon as I entered the site and started browsing the entries.

IMHO, they should have made the gold menu remain visible during the whole browsing session. And put simple links to 'filter projects' and 'search' at the bottom of the page too.

It may be that "Entertainment" in German view is synonymous with performance, presentation and production, not necessarily with an amusement, pleasure or leisure. Just kidding :-)
I see that Pentax K-1 won German iF Design Award 2017 PENTAX K-1 Recognized in German iF Design Award 2017 | Global | Ricoh
and German Design Award 2018 PENTAX K-1 mit German Design Award 2018 ausgezeichnet - RICOH IMAGING DEUTSCHLAND GmbH
Does it really matter in which category as long as Pentax K-1 is winning? Way to go Pentax!
