K1-II upgrade in Oz

G'day folks

I just got off the phone to CRK. I was inquiring about the availability and cost of doing the K1-II upgrade in Aust. The info is that it will cost au$770 and be available in May. The conversion will be done locally (so presumably without much delay).

At current exchange rates $550 USD works out to Au$699.74 (close enough to $700). If we then add 10% GST, we get $770. Fair enough.

I assume the techs will do a minor service and check the camera for tolerances, etc when they do the change of components. I should have asked.

I wonder what I can get for my used K-1 (with Sigma scratch) and is it worth the hassle to sell it and get a new K1-II with the extra period of warranty, etc?

Food for thought

I'll certainly be getting my black K-1 converted ASAP.
My silver K-1 won't be touched unless the first upgrade exceeds expectations.

If I can raise the $770, I will get the upgrade.

In the interests of sustainable resource use I will be upgrading. I think this approach by Pentax is virtuous and we should see more of it. These cameras should have external toughness capable of 10 years of wear and tear. Internal upgrades become the norm. That is my 2c worth.

I completely agree, especially when there is essentially nothing wrong with the physical attributes of the camera.

Great news for all Australian owners of the K-1 - we can now confirm the price and timeframe for those looking to upgrade to the latest model - the K-1 II!

Starting shortly after the release of the K-1 II, we'll be offering an upgrade path for existing owners of the previous K-1 model for just $700 AUD from May 21st until September 30th 2018.

Keep your eyes peeled for more information on how you can participate in this upgrade path closer to the exciting release of the K-1 II later next month.

IMO it is better to sell the K1 and pay the difference for a K1 II, it would cost about the same, but you get a brand new camera out of factory with the guarantee.
Anyway, I guess we will see a lot more K1 for sale , and the price might drop a bit around 1200 to 1500E price range.
