Mark, you are going to love the camera. The K1 and K1-II images are wonderful to work with in post processing. There is a lot of data to work with. I call the images delicious as you can just dig into them an pull put all sorts of tasty morsels.

Cropping is almost a non issue. I have never used my K1 or my K1-II in crop mode. No real need to unless you need to increase your burst rate.

And congratulations on winning.

Thank you! So far, what's really impressing me is the colour rendition in Lightroom.

Latest find:

Under the Mode Dial, there's this neat little "lock-unlock" slide. Turns out, you can slide that to one side and it removes the need to push the centre button to rotate the Mode Dial. The Mode Dial still has a nice smooth click function from one setting to the next, but you need not depress the centre button when the 'lock' is unlocked.

I recommend to read the manual.

Some of the functionality needs to be accessed by preasing a button and turning a dial at the same time. You may not find these ways of interacting with the camera by pure experimentation.

I'm glad you seem to be experiencing the same kind of intangible enjoyment from the K-1 II that I did and still do from my K-1.

I'll get to the manual eventually! So far, I've been seeing what i can do without because I've had very little time for reading. I'm completely snowed under with work and home renovations at the moment.

Thank you. Yes, spring at long last! That's the cherry tree in our garden.

My favourite find was the digital preview - been using it ever since!

Eventually you will have to read the manual. Otherwise you will never know what you do not know.

I'm well aware. And, I will read the whole thing from end to end. Time has just not been on my side this week.

Could somebody please with both K-1 and K-1 II experience verify that K-1 Mark II is some what slower than plain K-1 to boot up from the power off mode and wake up from the sleep mode.

I do not see a delay when turning on from being off. As to sleep, same thing.

I did notice that the camera with the larger SD card was a hair slower. So I pulled the cards, set the cameras to P and tried to make them identical and when I turn on they seem to be just as fast. One had the DA 50mm f/1.8 and one had the D FA 28-105. Any delay I saw was because I knew that flipping the switch, one switch flipped faster than the other.

But I did not see any delay.

K-1 with the 1.5 Firmware. K-1 Mark II with 1.02 Firmware

Shot my first event with the K-1ii yesterday. A bit of a learning curve, but so far I'm very pleased.
