User Mode Settings

Just an FYI here. I was saving settings in U1 and U2 so I could switch back and forth between DNGs and JPEGs. One of the settings was shooting Continuous HI. When I went to test the settings the camera would make one exposure and then write to the SD card before it would take another exposure and if I held the shutter button it would take another exposure and then write to the card again. Needless to say it may be Continuous but it ain't HI! It turns out that having the High ISO NR turned on will apply the NR for each image before allowing another exposure. Turning that off allows the camera to shoot Continuous HI again. If you all know this already it must be that I'm really slow but not very fast.

This may be a stupid question, but does the High ISO NR apply to the Raw image? or just the JPEG

There are a number of in-camera features that significantly slow frame rate. High ISO NR is one of them.

Understood, but I think when I encountered this while doing some 20S night photos, placing the camera in RAW (instead of RAW+) instantly cured the problem if I remember correctly. I may have to play around with this a bit just for my own curiosity.

I didn't think that DSLRs would modify Raw images but the NR did affect the shooting speed so maybe it does.

Although it may not affect the raw data, I would presume that all the various options including NR are applied to the embedded JPEG so slowing things down. So if you shoot raw it would be best to turn everything off wouldn't it?

I agree especially if you're going to be shooting sports and wildlife.

In the k-70, having Clarity set to anything other than 0 has a drastic effect on the frame rate.

I can't remember where I read it, but I was quite surprised at the changes made to the RAW...and I thought it was simply the RAW info off the sensor. As Yoda would say, "More reading I must do"
