K1 with Remote Release - Auto Focus Failure

I have been using my K1 for a month now and for the first time, I decided to use it at a party where I set it up on a tripod and used an IR remote... Disaster!
Am I missing a setting somewhere...?
When I trigger the camera with the remote, the camera doesn't focus! I will trigger the flash and open the shutter, but no focus.
I even have the camera set to not fire until it is in focus too...

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Bob

In the menu, C-10 AF with Remote Cotnrol on or off. Mine is off, so I suspect the default is off.

Yes, the default is OFF as has been the case for Pentax dSLRs for pretty much forever. The rational is that one does not want to take the risk of focus being lost to a passing bird or an element of the background with the photographer away from the camera. It might also be noted that this setting affects IR remote only. A wired remote is not bound by this setting.

Probably what has been suggested, but just in case: If you're using the O-RC1 IR remote, it uses a separate button for the autofocus function. In that case you need to hit that button first (to focus), and then the shutter release. Handy since it allows you to leave the AF with remote activated, and choose whether to autofocus or not. I believe some other IR controls work the same way.

Thank you all...
Yep Auto focus with remote was defaulted to off and I missed it when doing a setup... Also, I do have the O-RC1 IR remote and missed that function button too...!
It's another typical case of operator failure...

Well, it looks like we'll just have to do the party all over again so I can get it right the next time... LOL!!!

Thanks again...
Cheers

I think more generally, Bob, test out a new shooting method or piece of equipment before the event!

It took less than 24 hours before this forum gave you the answer, but it's no good to you if the party's been and gone.

Don't feel bad. Modern cameras have an instruction manual akin to the New York City yellow pages. For my first Pentax, the camera operating instructions that were required reading were hardly longer than the index in the K1 manual. And the selfie remote was unambiguous - bzzzzzz-DAP. You could see & hear it working from start to exposure
