DA 16-45 on the K-1?

On the K-20 the 16-45 covered many of my landscape needs. For the K-1 I have the DFA 28-105 which is good also. I picked up the Sigma Super Wide II 24mm, and have been thinking about something wider. I have not thought much about the 16-45 for full frame, but have found that I can get down to 20mm without significant vignetting at moderate apertures.

The color and contrast might make the 16-45, as well as the zoom capabilities worthwhile compared to older lenses like the A20. Is anyone regularly using this lens for the K-1? Newer choices seem to be out of my price range for now.

I use the 16-45 on my K-1 almost exclusively and the 28-105 on my K-1 II.

Have you made any comparisons of the 16-45 with other lenses, like older primes?

Yes, but not in any great detail. Have all the primes but alas don't get to use them much anymore.

So the 16-45 works pretty good for you then.... there's a lens I never considered, but 16mm on FF has to be pretty decent UWA. Hows the sharpness and distortion etc. ?

Did some playing around with the 16-45 on the K-1. I might at least keep it for home movies, for the zoom and wide angle features. It is usable around 20mm on. For still landscape photos on the K-1, I find that infinity focus is best. The curvature of field helps the near things and the outer edges to be sharper at f8 and beyond. I have yet to find how much acceptable enlargement I can get with this technique.

I like the Irix 15 on my K-1. Set the lens once using the hyperlocal scale, and leave it. Very sharp. Great build quality. Can also be used on crop sensors.

That looks like and interesting lens. I am more interested in 20mm FL right now.

The DA16-45 is an APS-C lens, thus not really useful on the K-1.

To get the same image angle on the K-1, you'd need a 24-75 lens.

For unfathomable reasons, Pentax decided to create a 28-105mm lens instead of an equivalent to the DA16-85, which would have been a 24-128. The four missing millimetres at the wide end are essential.

For real wide angle, you'd better get the Sigma 12-24 (in contrast to the DA12-24 the Sigma is a "full frame" lens), or a prime like the 11mm irix or the new Samyang 10/3.5 (the widest rectilinear ultra-super-duper wideangle lens for "full frame"). For reasons of sheer and utter stupidity*, Sigma ceased production of the 12-24 in Pentax mount around the time the K-1 came out.

*) No, that's not marketing. That's a dumb decision. The K-1 is the first camera since the end of the film era that actually can use the lens, and they quit making it -- after ten years of selling this lens for uses below it's potential on APS-C.

.
A 24-75 or 24-128 would be handy, but with film I found the 28-100 zoom very useful. I don't mind changing lenses, and I really don't need a 12-24 full frame lens at the moment. The DA 16-45 covers the full frame from 20-45. I realize that it might not be the best option, hence my original question. What I need to find is a subject that would suit the 20-28 range to try it out, since I am covered after that with the 28-105.

Well, the 15-30 seems to be the answer to your need, a pricey one, though.
