Frame rate, Buffer size, Write speed

I had run across the thread discussing the new memory cards and write speeds. I got me thinking about a time when I filled the buffer on my K1 and took, what seemed at the time, a long time to clear... So, test time... Pentax K1, shutter speed 1/2000, f2.8 iso 6400, Sandisk extreme pro 32gb (95mb/s) memory cards (purchased from B&H), all extra stuff shut off (noise reduction, etc.), raw (DNG) format, firmware version 1.5.... continuous (H), 13 frames filled the buffer, 25 seconds to clear. Continuous (M), 13 frames to fill, 25 seconds to clear. ..Yes, you read that right. So what gives?. I don't use the k1 for fast frame stuff (K3 for that) but still, I thought it odd.. .I have no way to accurately test frames per second.

I'm guessing that in both cases (high and medium theoretical frame rate) the camera was limited in speed by data transfer.

You can time the frame rate by photographing the stop watch app on your phone.

This sounds about right. If you don't have lens corrections on you'll be able to keep shooting at a slower rate without having the camera lock up. In our review, we measured a buffer capacity of 16 in raw and 13 in raw+.

For up to 100 frames, jpeg is the way to go.

I've been surprised how quickly it's snuck up on my shooting RAW+. A bigger buffer will be one of the things I look forward to in the next FF release.

Except for wildlife or sports this doesn't seem that bad. Of course, one of my other cameras is a Sigma DP1 Merrill.
Thanks,

So what would be better; a KP in RAW+ or a K1 with Jpegs only? Does anyone know?

HHHHmmmmm - have you looked at the tests of the cameras here on PF? Thinking they'll have this stat. Kinda an odd comparison given the differences in output and what you can do with them - one does not substitute for the other.
