OK So these first 4 are all from the 10-17 zoom at 10/12/14/17 mm
If I look at the exif of these shots they are : 10/11/13/17 mm...

I just lined up the barrel markings when taking the shots. I don't know at what point the exif will read 12mm .... eg if the lens is actually at 11.9mm will it still read 11mm?

I looked at your shots with ExifTool, the focal length is 11.0mm and 13.0mm. Perhaps it is the first letter who has to be lined up...

Getting the focal length right would take a prohibitive amount of time. People who ask you to do stuff for free should be a lot less picky.

The assumption being, of course, that the position of the contacts on the inner parts of the zoom ring (they drive the EXIF) are more properly calibrated and of higher precision than the numbers on the outside of the same ring. (The value in the makernotes of the EXIF is type int and in standard EXIF, rational.)

(...am confident that 12mm on the printed scale is closer to 12mm than to 11mm...)

I've just compared my K17FE with the DA10-17FE on my K-1 (don't know why I hadn't tried it sooner). At about 15mm (just past 14mm on the zoom ring where the hard vignette disappears from the viewfinder) the coverage is pretty much the same as the K17FE.

It's made me wonder whether I need both lenses...

You just answered a question I asked in my other fisheye thread.☺

Interesting question about the need for two fe lenses. Bet the 10-17 focuses closer. It has amazing close focus ability. Perhaps the KE17 wins on image quality?

Don't feel bad about not trying it on the K-1. It vignetted at 10 and I didn't even consider zooming higher. Thought it would live in the crop camera bag with K-01 or on K-1 in crop mode.
Thanks,
barondla

PS I've learned to be very careful getting rid of glass. Often something comes up to make me wish I hadn't.
