I like the K-1 flip out screen. The way I usually use it, for astrophotography, other hinge designs would probably work just as well for me.

I think photoptimist was punning on your waste/waist spelling.

I use it often. I've come up with some issues in sandy environments where I've eventyally had to "hose the backside out". Other than that little problem, IMO its a flawless implementation.

Are you trying to make me pay attention?

No... If I wanted you to pay attention I'd say something about equivalence proving FF is superior to APS-C.

(And as a fellow misspeller of words I always enjoy when the misspelling seems so very appropriate to the context.)

I'm in the group of people who like it and feel like the design is easy to use and offers added functionality, but still every now and then wishes for a screen that could go all the way down to be viewed from below, or all the way 180 to be viewed from the front.

That said, I don't think they went wrong with this design. I think it's quit ingenious.

I hate selfies, so the K1's screen works well for everything I like to do, low camera angle or shooting over a crowd (upside down)

I would absolutly like to see it on my Nikon! (Or the Nikon AF in a K-1.) I shoot a wedding with the K-1, it's an amazing design, much more ergonomic then my Nikon!

To answer the question posed in the topic:

Yes, I like the design and concept of the K-1 articulated screen. Since I mainly do macro work the camera can be at all sorts of odd angles and in areas with space limitations. Being able to position the screen on more than one axis would be a great advantage. I will add though I have no hands on experience with using a K-1/ii.

I like the lcd screen. It fits 95 percent of my usage but sometimes I would like to have it turned a 180°. When I put the camera on the floor to take a UWW picture of the ceiling of a room, or put it directly to a wall to get the opposite wall or object. For all other cases i pref the K1 system because i keeps in line with the camera axis
There's always the wifi app when you want to use unrealistic angles

One thing I'd like improved would be to have the ability to make the screen horizontal in portrait orientation also. A big challenge if one wants to keep the size under control.

It was not a factor in my decision to get a K1, but since I got the camera it has proven to be a very handy addition. Clever design too.

Probably can't hang the K-1 with mounted 560 lens from the screen, but decent use should be fine.

Thanks,

Are you aware that a Ricoh rep did just that at the CP+ show in 2016?

I had some real problems with trying to take astro photos with my K-3. Being 6 foot it means you either need a very big tripod, or you get sore knees and a stiff neck . This is especially true with long lenses where the tripod foot moves the pivot point forward. So with the K-1 I can now happily look down at the screen, or even stand off to one side, and get the focus and tilt right. This, would probably be the biggest feature to make me want a new APSC to replace my K-3.
