camera frozen

Yesterday my K1-II was like frozen.
I was taking photographs (the IBIS was turned on, pixel shift was turned off, Tv priority) and suddenly the camera refused to work. I heard the shutter opening but I didn't hear it closing again. The viewfinder kept closed and stayed black. Not a single button worked anymore. It was even impossible to turn off the camera. The camera seemed to be frozen.
The only way to solve the problem was taking the batter out of the camera, and placing it again in it. Then the camera worked again.

I only have 10.000 shutter clicks, so the camera should still be as brand new.

This was the second time this happened. The first time was a few months ago. Has anyone an idea what might be the reason for this?

What firmware version are you using? I have had it happen once with the K-1II, but never with the latest firmware.

I'm using versing version 1.02. Can that be the reason?

This doesn't sound like what happened to mine last year as the body completely bricked and would not do anything. In my case it was the main circuit board. Again, this doesn't sound like the same thing but here is the link to my problem. K-1 bricked, anyone seen this happen before? - PentaxForums.com

Whatever the problem is, I wish you a speedy solution.

It cannot hurt to update the firmware. Have a go, but make sure to use a fully charged, healthy battery to do the firmware update.
What lens were you using when it froze? With mine, it only ever happened when I had the Sigma 70-300mm lens fitted, never with any other lens.

I have updated the firmware. Let's hope the camera will be ok now.
The lens is the Pentax 28-105 mm. I was working on 6400 ISO.

What was the battery state when this happened, sometimes batteries can create problems especially when they are old and discharged? You might want to buy a fresh Pentax D-L190 battery it couldn't hurt. New batteries can sometime alleviate problems like this. Its worth a try along with the firmware update. Good luck!

Was the battery grip attached?
Sometimes the grip can trigger camera power weirdness.

There was no battery grip attached. And the battery was fully charged.

At what point did the mirror turn down again? After removal of the battery or after putting it back in?

The mirror turned down again after putting back the battery, and after reactivating the camera (turning from 'off' to 'on').

This happened once with my K5, when I had put in a el cheapo third party battery. Never with an original Pentax ditto. I guess low battery voltage can be the problem.

Don't worry about it too much. I had it happen multiple times with the K-5 but only a few times with the K-1II and it's not happened since I updated the firmware.
I use mine with the battery grip all the time so can't say if that plays a role.
