for those targets, perhaps the K 3 or K 3 II might be better than the others

Yes Dave.... the normal acquisition by stealth and weakness that creeps in. I wish I'd kept my Da15 and 21 now.... haha! So.... now just waiting for a 20% off DCexpert eBay sale to get a silver 21.

If you have the budget, the KP is an amazing camera. I personally think you’d be happy with the K70 also.

My “transition” went from K10-K20-K5-K3 and then to the K-1 and KP. It didn’t take long for me to realize I don’t miss the top LCD like I thought I would. I think the way the dials and buttons have advanced have really negated much of the need for it.

And you should keep the 43. I used the 43 and 77 for a lot of my work before I ever had thought about the K-1.

Good luck with the decision.

yes the 21 was my big loss going from APS-C...having a small body for that lens is a plus

the K70 getting plenty of mentions thanks !
my 'transition' went K100D, K-7, K-5, K-5IIs, K-1
I'll persevere with the 43
The 77 was completely paid for with this shot on the K-5IIs

the OP is, of course, the only one who can determine what selection of features, size and price is best

Pentax gives plenty to choose from

Hi guys
look I really like the K1 everything about it really
but it's just not getting enough use for what I've got invested in it.
thinking of the ks2 as economical and like 80% of a k-3 apparently.
I've still got the da21 da40 da55-300 as well as the marvelous Sigma 8 - 16
I crept into full frame lens world with the 77 and the 43. I could sell the 43

no one sells 77 eh ?

I like that the ks2 has articulated screen and some form of Wi-Fi
not worried about pixel shift not worried about 12 bit raw
might be worried about no top display though :-(
I don't seem to notice it on my Q7 or k-01 though so might be moot

Any thoughts much appreciated
cheers
Hell mate, what's this talk? Why would you want to take a step back from the K-1?
Will there really be a big saving selling the K-1 secondhand and getting a KS-2 new? I'd have thought the K-1 would be the better "forever" camera, but that's just me!

Don't overlook the risk of aperture block failure in the lower tier Pentax bodies, which includes the KS2.

I'd agree, the K-1 is compact for an FF DSLR, my K-5 is slightly smaller but once you've thrown it over your shoulder the differences are minimal. Add a bag and some more lenses and the difference disappears. Too go significantly smaller would be a Q or in my case, my GR.

The 43 doesn't really work for me on APS-C but I'd never sell it. I'd struggle for wide enough lenses on APS-C, my widest is the DA17-70, which makes the K-5 similar in bulk to my K-1 with the FA20-35 on it.

Keep on using the K-1 that is the most economical decision. You throw away a lot of money changing from k-1 to K-s2, which is a less modern camera. If you asked should I buy a K-1 or a K-s2 I would have said buy the K-s2. But as you have already made your bed with the K-1 I think it would be wise to go on with that camera.

I hadn't thought of the k3 line interesting I think the fixed LCD would feel like a step back with how I use it the K1 screen is fantastic
As much as I love my Pentax K 5lls & K3ll, I came from Olympus and all my camera models from the E620 to E5 had articulating screens. That was the biggest adjustment for me when changing to Pentax was the lack of them. Now that I have the K1 it would be a cold day in hell before I got another Pentax without one. Don't get me wrong I still love my other cameras but they wont get used near as much.

The Kp is all you wish for
Excellent body and cheap at the moment
Forget the k3 or k2s. The kp is a gem

K-70 is essentially the new version of the K-S2, with a better sensor, better ISO sensitivity and 14-bit raw. The K-S2 is still a great camera though, I am loving mine.

KP is higher grade than the K-70, but it does not feature an articulated screen, only a tilting screen like your K-1. It does not feature infrared remote either.
