Flash AF540 FGZII stop working on K1

Good morning,

Yesterday I've notice my flash stop working properly on my camera. I can turn it on, doing a test, everything looks fine, but when I shoot is like I don't have any. The only thing I've change from last time it worked, it's the firmware camera, now 1.51. Can someone have a try to confirm that's a bug?

Oftentimes firmware updates reset certain camera settings. Is the flash set to fire in the camera menu and does the selected drive mode support it?

My K1 + AF540 is working fine with the 1.51 fw.

What camera and flash modes are you trying to use it in ?

Do you have another body to check it with? I had a 540 die, it worked one day and the next it didn't.

In my camera menu there are only two modes: flash and flash+eyes, but from the K1 manual I can see four or six.

P-TTL and zoom 24 mm (the lowest), EV 0, test buttom is red and works.

No, I don't and my 540 doesn't look died. One day I will buy one more.

The ones that are displayed depends on exposure mode (see manual p65). The only time you see more than two (flash on, flash on + red-eye reduction) is for modes where the camera determines the shutter speed.

The important settings are made on the flash. Now that is clear, can you share what exactly does not work with your flash?
  • Are you able to do a test flash when detached from the K-1?
  • With the K-1 in Av mode and the flash turned on and ready light lit, does pressing the shutter release result in the flash firing?
  • If the flash fires with shutter release, is there a problem with exposure?

I tried many Auto, SV, AV, X.. changing lenses I've noticed there's some oxidation on the camera contacts, I will try again with a proper cleaner tomorrow.
