Using the D FA HD Pentax 50 mm 1.4 lens with K1... Remember to upgrade firmware

A helpful post inside this forum helped me understand that my K1 needed a firmware upgrade. Prior to reading this forum post, I took this fabulous lens out twice to see what it could do. What I discovered: exposure settings were crazy wild and auto-focus was hit and miss. Well, I upgraded my K1 and my K3 and am looking forward to a different experience tomorrow. Thanks for being the Pentax voice in an Other Brand Universe. Will post soon...

I use DFA* 85/1.4 but did not FW upgrade (still v1.51). Any problems with autofocus or exposure. Had no problems with DFA* 50/1.4 as well when I tried it for the first time (FW 1.43 was installed). I think FW upgrade is not critical in these cases, if it is not 1.00-1.10 version. Some problems with KAF4 lenses were solved in v1.20.

I have absolutely no idea. What I will say is that if Pentax advises to use fw 1.53 when using the DFA 85mm I will do so. I am at a loss to understand why anyone would think otherwise would be a good idea. But it is your choice
