All the WR capability is also nice to keep sand and dirt out of the expensive bits.

Blowing sand on the beach is a complete nightmare for unsealed cameras...
After I'm done, I usually brush most of it off then rinse what I can't easily get...

I have used both WR and non-sealed lens and camera's in the rain, and I still fall back on my old tried and true "keep the water off methods" .Its not that I don't trust pentax seals, but more of a " I really don't trust water"....That stuff just has a way of finding its way into things.

I did use my K3 and DFA 150-450 in a really nasty rainstorm once without covering as I really wanted the shot and was not prepared.... and I swear I could not shake the feeling I was doing something wrong... like when you know you are speeding bad and just passed a police officer.. That combo of guilt and fear that makes you hit the brakes even though it doesn't make a difference at that point. Then I was so paranoid that I kept the Gear out of its carrying bag for days to be sure it was dry.. In hind sight I think thats also what worries me.. Sure the gear is moisture resistant but then what do I do with all this wet gear in the car? can't put it back in the backpack at this point...with a cover.. out of the cover and back in the bag is no issue.

I do occasionally shoot in the rain, but do try to protect the camera but, more importantly, the lenses because the most used are zoom lenses. They may be weather resistant, but zooming appears to be a risk factor. I also take lots of photos close to the sea, so I'm grateful for the resistance to salt spray and blown sand.

When I shoot in the rain, I use a rain hat, which looks like a little clear poncho for the camera.

I have seen these, but never used one. Actually, I went out shooting in a drizzle just yesterday.
