My questioning is why you feel the need to capture in square mode?

As far as weight I Iike some weight to my cameras. I use a harness when I am carrying my camera with a heavier lens otherwise I trek with a backpack that I attach my camera to or use a hand strap with smaller lenses. I stupidly fought going full frame until after the Mkll came out though now that I have one it's like going back home to my film days with much better results. I still maintain an Apsc but I'm finding I am using it less and less. I wound up picking up a couple more expensive full frame lenses but also have some of the older F lens which I am loving on my K1. So enjoy, there is a learning curve. Do pick up one of the K1 E books available, it's well worth it.

PS. I bought one of these years ago when I trekked with two Apsc cameras now use it with my K1.

I could have spent a little more time thinking through an organization plan before sprinkling photos across three removable drives and two internal ones....

Well, mostly - I do plan on using 24Mpx square mode quite a bit too

Congrats and welcome! It is a little bulky, yes, nothing you can do about that, but I haven't regretted the move either!

Enjoy! I can only speak to the older prime glass that you asked about. It's all wonderful.

Please don't pass up the opporutnity to play with some fun glass on this camera body.

I'm having an absolute blast with a nice Helios 44-2 58 mm f2.0.

Was kind of expecting the k-mount to m42 ring to be a rather frivolous purchase.

I'm getting as much use out of the Helios and a few Takumars as the Pentax K / M's

Weight, ah, who cares when the images are this nice!

One of the most fun features of the K1 is its flippy-screen-from-Mars. Irrespective of its utility (which I use for inconspicuous street photography), its a fascinating piece of design.

I think you will find that as you use the K1, you'll shift in your desires with respect to formats and lenses.

You will have to try your lenses, all the Full Framed ones will work beautifully... the otyhers are a bit of a crap shoot with some being OK, others not at all. But you have modes to make them all work if you want. This is a great camera. You are going to love it!

It's now in hand and well supported. The DA21 just got superseded by the 16-45 (20-45 for K-1, I hear), the DA35 macro looks decent at 36×24, and elderprimes 50-85-135 work as expected. The old Σ100-300 'slowpoke' (f/4.5-6.7) has always served me well on aps.c bodies; I promise not to scrutinize the edges

Sure is nice to have a place for my pinky on the grip!!
