K-1 grip. Back AF button problem.

Hi.
I have a hard time on using back button AF with my K-1 and battery grip. Why they put AF button on the grip in totally different position than on the main body. When I switch my grip from horizontal to vertical position my finger lands on AE-L button. Then after adapting to vertical position AF button and than switching to horizontal position I keep pressing the green button. The design is wrong in this aspect (from mine point of view). But maybe there is a simple solution? Can I assign green button or AE-L button to act as an AF button?

That's an excellent question. Yes, you can indeed assign the back button AF to your finger when the camera is in vertical position, simply by using your proprioception (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proprioception).
How to write in muscle memory? Spaced repetition with feedback until the movement become effortless and automatic. In your case, you change the camera from horizontal to vertical, hundred times if necessary, until your finger will automatically find the back button AF.
That's pretty much how we learned to walk and do many other things without even thinking about it.

Thank you for your answer but I don't want to learn bad habits. I prefer to change flawed tool if it is not possible to modify it.

When I have the grip on the camera, I don't use the buttons on the grip, just the buttons on the camera. I found the button on the grip to activate the AF and sometimes even the shutter release when I carried the camera over my shoulder, which was a nuisance.

I added a tactile 'bump' to both of my AF buttons on the body and grip (both on K1 & K1 ii) by cutting down a sewing pin so the shaft was about 2-3 mm long I think and using the same diameter drill bit (0.6 mm I think) in the centre of the AF buttons and then pushing the shortened pins in.

It works great for me and I now rarely hit the AE-L buttons (I don't use them).

Don't drill the holes too deep though.

I used Oxy - Acetylene tip cleaning drills. They used to be readily available here in Australia.
