It's pretty much good across the range. That's why it earned the nickname of the 'box of primes'.

Pentax-A 35-105mm F3.5 Review
Review . . .

Called the stack of primes by many and praised for it's wonderful production of super saturated reds and blues. This lens has apparently gained quite a reputation for amazing image quality over the years. So I thought it was worthy of an in depth look at it's capabilities. To prove or possibly disprove the reputation it has garnered over the years. . . .

I routinely use the 35 -105 SMC A Zoom on the K-1ii.

It's really is a strong performer. Fixed f/3.5 across the range.

Added bonus of a macro-ish function.

And the write ups about the color rendition are all true.

It's a no brainer purchase if you have the chance.

Enjoy!

If you mean the FL for SR I usually choose 70mm and sometimes I choose 100mm if I know that I cannot put my feet on stable ground or if I am not able to choose a stable position. It is real "vintage" classic this lens...

I used this lens a lot on my K2DMD, and on and off on its DSLR successors. It’s a very good lens for its age. The one fault with it, I find, is that in low light or large apertures generally, the lack of adequate (?any) coating on the rear element can lead to lower contrast, due to reflections off the sensor, I understand. That was never an issue with film, presumably due to the less-shiny film surface. At smaller apertures or in bright light it’s as good as it gets for a 3:1 zoom of its range and era.

I got one of these a year ago for $85 USD off eBay in mint condition. I've taken it on a cross-country road trip with a carefully selected set of five lenses to fit that field-of-view range, where I usually do landscape photos under 35mm (full-frame). Good lens, if you want something in this range that doesn't cost a lot but has pretty decent optics.

Best SMC-A lens, I've bought, it's tack sharp across it's entire focal range! I use it on my KP, K1, and Nikon Z7 all with great success.
