Maybe I'm in the minority, but personally I like to shoot vertically alot & have L brackets on my other cameras for tri[pod use. Haven't found one made for the K-1 in the US (there are a few overseas but don't seem to be available here.). So I took to the internet & tried a few, but they all covered the battery hatch.I've tried cutting & hacking the ends off and while functional, just don't look right and I questioned regidity where I had to hack away to get it to fit. Well, i finally found one I thought would work, but... it covered the battery hatch by just a hair and wouldn't let it open all the way. Well, a dremmel, beer and black spraypaint fixed that problem. It may not be something Small Rig would want, but it's functional and looks fairly decent and at first glance, not like a home hack job. The side doesn't cover the mic & headphone ports but does cover the HDMI port (have yet to find one that doesn't cover that one), but I never use them so it's no big deal. I'm satisfied with the results, the battery hatch opens 99% of the way but does allow the battery in ond out. I declare victory and move on...

This is why I hope the K1-III body is the same size so I can continue to use my Markins K1 l-bracket.

The Pro Media Gear l-bracket fits both my KP and K1 without interfering with the battery cover.

This was listed on ebay as unbranded, generic bracket with no manufacturer listed. Small Rig may sell one but this one isn't branded as Small Rig.

Fits perfectly and is more compact than the Kirk BL-K1 (out of production), which I find more rigid, but somewhat bulky a the vertical plate. It's easier to pull out the display though and I also like the Kirk's loop for a belt (PD 'button' in my case) next to the battery door. So if you find a used one, it's highly recommended.

I just loosen the screw on my L plate a little and move it to the side when I want to access the battery compartment. Of course there may be users that may not want to bother, but for me it is not that much of a task.

Please do not explain to me why an L-bracket is a useful thing. Ignorance is a perfect protection against gear-lust.
