K-1 II exposure issue

Hello Everyone:

I need some advice concerning exposure with my K-1 II. If is use AUTO (green mode) I get properly exposed color. Of course, using green mode does not allow control of depth of field. In EVERY other exposure setting, I am getting over exposed photos (not so bad that I cannot recover the photo in post, but still annoying. If I take a photo in green mode and then use the exact settings in all the other modes, (even in manual) I get over exposed photos.

Am I doing something wrong?

A few things to check:

1. Check the metering mode to make sure are on multi-segment metering.
2. Check exposure compensation setting to make sure it is at 0 (use the green button to reset)
3. Try manual mode to see what settings look like at proper exposure value by the meter.

Depending upon lens used there could be other issues. Check these first.

I'm guessing that you may have exposure compensation set other than 0.

Thanks....EV was and is at ZERO. Lens makes no difference. However, you were correct to have me meter in MANUAL and see if it matches AUTO. While AUTO takes balanced color and lighting photos, the manual setting was slightly off. The AUTO setting for my test set the F-stop at 3.5, while I had to set the F-stop at 3.2 in manual for the proper exposure.

It is now night here and I was using a computer screen for the test. Probably not the best for the test.

Does this mean I need to move the EV settings to adjust for the difference?

3.2 to 3.5 is 1/3 of a stop. I would be hard pressed to notice that difference in an image. Of course that assumes that the other exposure parameters (shutter speed and ISO) are the same.

Can you post some images which demonstrate the issue, and we may be able to help further.

If the green mode exposure works fine, then it should be a matter of camera settings in other modes, either exposure metering mode, exposure compensation, or even your choice of jpeg rendering setting since they also include contrast and exposure settings. Green mode will make its own choice of jpeg style, and you have no control on this.

Check the custom image mode.
+ it does not apply in green mode but it does apply in all others... so my suspect here.
it is on the four way controller at the back of camera on the right button ]>
you might have selected bleach , vibrant or another 'bright image mode', (and with inf button you might even have changed details of those)
try natural or landscape (favours greens) or portrait (favours skin tones) mode.

another possibility is the white balance is not on AWB automatic. On the left button <] of four way controller...

Both buttons are sometimes activated by accident by carrying/bumping camera around...hence you are not aware of the changed settings.

Someone suggested looking into the custom settings. I found that for some reason (i do not recall changing anything...perhaps by accident as you suggest) the Custom settings was not set on auto...so changed that.

After testing in AUTO (green mode) and in manual, I found that I still had to move EV to 3/4 negative to get the balance I want.

I will not test the Custom Images in nature, etc.

But, for some reason I am having to move the EV slightly into the negative to get the results I want. This is not the case when the camera was new

At anyrate, I appear to be getting close to solving the issue....thanks for your input.

I discovered that Custom Settings was somehow accidentally set MUTED and the White Balance was somehow set to CTE (no clue how these settings were chosen).

However, I still had to adjust EV about 3/4 step negative to get balance that I wanted. Did not have to make this change when the camera was new.

Thanks for your imput.

There is a good reason why the K-1s have a "lock settings" mode .- Jack

Thanks to all who responded.....finding erroneous settings in White Balance and Custom Settings, along with a small EV adjustment did the trick.
