The long, difficult road to Pentax full-frame: Digital Photography Review

TL;DR: Pentax sorta recognizes this is a Pentax for Pentax fans; it's success will be impeded by lens availability issues. A nice article with some valid criticisms and praise.

A decent look at the main features of the camera with some nice detail shots, and bonus size comparisons with the LX:

Best lines.

It's really nice to read so many writers and reviewers - and commenters - giving us a tip of the hat, wishing us well, celebrating our loyalty and quirkiness and often recounting their own historical experiences with Pentax. It doesn't feel strange at all to actually be emotionally attached to a consumer brand when so many others understand and share the sentiment.
nicely put oh B&W one.

ps, to save me looking for his post, did he mention the Oz price?
Rod, I contacted them the day the K-1 was released and got myself on the early adopter queue. I assumed the K-1 would be around $2800-2900AUD. when the CRK list price of -what was it?- $3300? was announced I was not in a happy place. (I can afford it, but I dislike being played). I'm still on the CRK list but I have since cut a deal with Paul of Kirks in Ringwood to sell me the camera at the new CRK price, some $400 down on the original. I want to help the local retailers support carrying Penatx. I will honour both commitments, if need be. I'm sure I can find someone who wants to take my place in either queue. Or maybe I'll be the first person in the world with a dual K-1 setup

Kirks is the only store I've seen with a big 'Pentax' sign above it.

I drive past it admiringly every now and then. If/when I can get funds together in the next couple of years I might drop in.

There are very few stores like Kirks still around. There are a few corporate chain stores like Camera House and Teds, etc, but few where you get to talk to the man who makes the purchasing decision for HIS store. That's why I'm trying to bring it to peoples attention. If we can all buy Pentax stuff through stores like Kirks, it will help both the store and the Pentax community.

I have other purely selfish reasons too. I want to be able to walk into a store and see an extensive range of Pentax equipment. It would bring a smile to my face. Generally the best source for Pentax equipment I know of is my camera cupboard...

Wiz, does Croydon Camera House still stock Pentax?
I have never set foot inside there, but had very pleasant and efficient dealings with Nigel when I bought my *ist DS. (by phone)
(Before I bought the K-5, I tried Albury, Shepparton and Bendigo Camera Houses and lucked out; I think one of them had a KR, but the others had none!)
