That's Nature or probability or random error. I'm talking about, "Where does it say the LCD is a handle?" Stupid.

I gotta say the little LEDs on the back of the display are very thoughtful. I've spent a fair amount of time fumbling around in the dark either doing night photos or waiting for sunrises. Those LEDs should be very helpful without being so bright they mess up your night vision (like a flashlight does).

I don't know when or if I will buy the K-1, but even if I don't, maybe Pentax will add those to future APS-C cameras.

The cost may or may not come down over time, but the price at launch is extremely competitive and not that far off from the K-3 launch price two years ago. Translation: The K-1 is the most affordable FF dSLR camera to-date and is a very real challenge to the Sony A7i.

As for ability of the LCD to weather rough handling...the key is that most of the time it will likely be in the stowed position and when not, the camera will likely be on tripod. The obvious exception would be over-the-head hand-held shooting in a crowd.

Reminds me of the old ads with Lester Bogen sitting on a tripod...

The History of Bogen Imaging by Jon Sienkiewicz | Take Great Pictures
I remember those ads A testament to that generation of Bogen tripods is the fact that they are still very easily found used and continue to be in demand.

If it is not supposed to be used as a handle, why did they make it so easy to grab?

Agree! That is why they use 4 metal supports under the screen, rather than one in other cameras.

I know, Steve... A good stuff we care a lot was abused...
