K-1 Flex-tilting / rotating screen -- Strong enough to support camera body!

I found this statement from an on line review: -- stated hand-on review

A unique feature of the K-1 can be found on the back with a "Flextilt" 3.2inch tilting / rotating screen, with 1037k dot resolution and a gapless design for better outdoor viewing. This can be tilted left and right, as well as down, and up 90 degrees, or moved away from the camera body, and the system that holds the screen is strong enough to support the weight of the camera if you were to accidentaly hold the camera using the screen.

I was always wondering the purpose of this unique design. Maybe it can be used as a built-in "tripod" where you need it?

But can it support the body when a, say, FA* 600/4 is mounted to it?

So many moving parts!
I hope this mechanism can keep up with the 300,000 actuation shutter!

As that site develops we're going to understand Ricoh's be ad strategy for Pentax and a lot about their plan.

I can imagine the first series of K-1 rants..."My tilt screen broke off the first time I used it as a handle, but Ricoh refused to fix under warranty!"

I'd be worried about potential damage to the strength and durability of the tilting mechanism after a fair amount of "rough" handling, knocks and drops (etc.) - not that I'm going to buy one anytime in the foreseeable future because the K-1 is too big and heavy, and expensive (!), for me as an older person on pensions.

OTOH, I doubt I'm anywhere near being in the target audience for this camera! However, I hope those who are in that audience do like, want and can afford it.

Reminds me of the old ads with Lester Bogen sitting on a tripod...
