Best wide angle lens for K-1?

Is the Samyang 12mm FF fisheye available in pentax mount? I'd assume that's the equivalent of the 8mm fisheye for crop sensor.

It's the A7, Jim. I hate to be an enabler for GAS, but you *know* the K-1 would have done it better!

My mother-in-law lives in a small town at the top of these cliffs, I noticed that sunrise was going to coincide with low tide, and put on the thermals.

I think both of us would recommend that while you get fantastic IQ and pricing for the Samyang, best to buy from someone who you know will do a return because of possible decentreing on individual copies.

My Tamron 28-75 is a fine lens on my K-5/K-3. I would use it on a future K-1 to start out.

I had the Tokina 12-24 on the Canon 5D - and that just wasn't my cup of tea at all. Even at the non-vignette setting (18mm) it looked pretty bad.

Yes, and yes on the questions regarding the Samyang/Rokinon 12mm. Amazon shows both brandings available at a premium compared to other mounts. Samyang isn't stupid, and there was no reason to produce the lens in any quantity until the FF arrived. AFAIK, the 12mm stereographic is very similar in design to the 8mm for crop in terms of look, quality, projection adjusted for sensor size difference, of course.

My experience with the same lens in Canon (20D, 5D) was pretty good overall. It doesn't do well at f/2.8 at any focal length - especially in FF. However, it is fine already at f/4. As a daylight walk-around lens you'll really like it. For low light, you really need primes.

Keep in mind that the 5D was 12mp, so I'm not entirely sure the Tamron will hold up at 36mp. You might be happier all the way down to f/5.6.

I have the Sigma 8-16mm UWA and the Sigma 10-20mm UWA plus the Sigma 10mm Fisheye which I hope would work well on the K-1 but if I have to buy another lens so be it. Any suggestions?

I'll try my 15mm limited. It is listed as functioning on FF stopped down a bit. Otherwise the FA 15-30mm is tempting. (The Tamron is a beast) But it is to expensive at launch.

The DA 15mm f4 Limited is listed as 'Crop Mode' only I am afraid, no current primes wider than the DA 35mm (both f2.4 and f2.8 Macro ltd) are listed as 'Stopped Down'.

The only Pentax Wide Angle AF Primes that will work are the older FA 20mm f2.8 and FA* 24mm f2.

I would save some money and wait until the 15-30 2.8 price drops. I think, that in case with some older lenses, I will be just wasting the potential of K-1. Besides in terms of usability zoom is, most likely, better.

Oh, my bad, i jumped a line and got the wrong information. Damn! OK, now i need a wide angle as well.

I think i´ll get the 24-70 with the K-1 and that should do for the start if i need FF resolution. Otherwise i can use the 15 in crop or normal and crop later.

If MF is on the table, you might keep an eye out for a Voigtlander lens or two--I think the 20mm Color-Skopar is pretty rare, but even the 40mm Ultron would be pretty wide on FF. Both have good reputations, and their smallish form-factor is in the DA Limited range.

My Zenitar 16mm is incredibly wide on my 35mm Spotmatics. While the Rokinon 8mm is wider (I seem to have a thing for fisheyes?) I wouldn't discount a 15mm or 16m focal length.

The Zenitar at f11/f16 is a great tool. I find wide angles generally are iffy until f8, then the IQ starts jumping up.

Well, searching wide lenses is more difficult than other range. Perhaps that's because I'm not really good with that range.

So far, 15-30mm seems like very convenient for landscape, for walk around, and for indoors. The only drawback is price.

The cheaper solution will be just to buy 15mm ltd for cropped camera and be happy with it. Damn,it's always about money...

That means I have to wait, get K-1, try all FF lenses I have to "feel" it on original format, and then decide after coming back to all this list you, guys, gave here.
