I had a feeling you'd be along with this suggestion as I was perusing through this thread.

I've settled on the K Series SMC Pentax 28mm f/3.5 Lens - FOR A SHORT TERM FIX. While certainly not the perfect wide angle, it will get me by for the next year or two while I wait for Zeiss, Voigtlander, Pentax, and Sigma to come out with new super-premium wide angle lenses that will be up to the K1 capabilities. Sadly, I see no current wide angles for the K1 that are truly exceptional (with the possible exception of the Pentax 15-30, but I'm a prime kind of guy and that range is just too wide for me).

I'm holding out to see if this upcoming IRIX lens is worth its salt.

Honestly... SMC M 20mm F4 is quite remarkable as @pinholecam has demonstrated a number of times, particularly in light of it's relatively ridiculous size/weight/price point.

Well, one of those brands might do that, Fenwoodian. ☺

Only Pentax, mate. Not because the others hate us, but there won't be the financial returns. ☺

Like your positivity, Chickentender.

Have a Plan B just in case, though, won't you? ☺

A friend of mine using Carl Zeiss 15mm f/2.8 Distagon for astrophotography and he's using it without any problem at infinity focus since Day 1. Perhaps it's a matter of bad / good copy.
The new Irix 15mm lens is supposed to overcome that problem, allowing the user to dial in the infinity stop on the lens, suited to their camera, allowing perfect infinity stop every time. Also, it will have a focus lock allowing a user to set a focus distance and lock it off, for say helicopter use or reportage etc.

I tell you, when this Irix lens arrives, if it delivers image quality wise, then it's going to wake up the big boys like Zeiss because they have thought of a lot of the common issues we all have.

I'm just yammering. My plan-B is Pentax. And my plan-A is M20/4 and K24/2.8 - but currently I'm dragging my feet on the K-1. Excited for everyone that's jumping onboard but determined it isn't something I need quite yet - and that may well change by the end of the year.
If it is truly successful though, and more shooters come to, or come back to Pentax, one could hold a teensy bit of hope for the other big four mentioned above returning to a PK offering or two. One could hope.

"To infinity and beyond with Neutrino coating"

p.s. Sorry couldn't resist but that lens really looks promising.

Anyone know when it's due?
Will probably sell my Sigma 12-24mm if it's good.
