That's what I'm finding also, of the K-1II upgrades, improved AF seems the best. The improved ISO & DPS in my option, not worth the upgrade by themselves, but the improve AF is if you need it.
Yeah, I don't need it all that often but it is nice to have. I had to replace my mk i anyway (took a hard fall and was never quite the same even after repair) so I just decided to pay the difference to get the latest.
For the AF I'm glad I did and it has paid for it's self now too.

I shot so many flash photos my Metz flash was starting to smell like burned plastic!

I shot a couple thousand mountain bike race photos over the weekend. The K-1ii seems to indeed have better AF or at least I had an easier time than when I used the original K-1 last year.

Are you finding the improvement global or specific to certain situations. Like I think I may have read that there is no real difference to AF.S but that AF.C is where the improvement lies. Care to comment?

AF-C was what I was referring to, I should have made that clear. As long as my AF area was over the subject, it did well.

How did you find the Samyang (apart from its obvious size and weight). First impression is that its a tricky fellow to land focus on (much like I find the tak 135/2.5)
To be honest, Bruce, it's one of my least used lenses. Getting the FA 77 Limited with autofocus made it redundant.

When using my K-30, focus with it is fast and accurate because I've put in a split image focus screen. On my Sony A7 it's tedious but I can zoom in to a magnified live view, just destroys your workflow. Focus peaking is very unreliable in low contrast situations (such as backlit).

Awesome shot! Did you stack the stars, or it's a single exposure? Curious - how long was the exposure with astrotracer? Longest I could achieve was around 1:30 before stars in center started streaking.
Thanks.
Its 2 exposures.
Stars at f2.8, ISO3200, 40s
Scene at f8, ISO200, 2mins.
I did some light painting too to lift the shadowed side.

From my limited usage so far, I have no need to go longer than the above.
I do think 1:30 is about there before there is more trailing from my own usage too.

I think the strength of the astrotracer is not in UWA lenses like 12mm-15mm where f2.8, ISO3200, 30s will be able to be done by any other camera.
Its strength really lies with longer focal length lenses like 28mm, 35mm, 50mm where the 500/FL rule will have a normal camera crank up the settings to keep with the limit.

Love the shot, Pinholecam ... does that guy really sleep beside his beehives? What can possibly go wrong?
Doh!
I was thinking about moving those 'boxes' for better composition.

That's understandable, a FA77 I think trumps the MF 85/1.4 in terms of all round value. I've seen FA77's go for $700AUD second hand out here, so yeah its not been something I've been able to afford. The Samyang I got was half that price new, let's hope we have a fruitful relationship together! (me and the lens... not you and I... oh dear... )

Well, it's very nice for what it is. Someone who bought a K-1 with almost nothing left over for glass could do a lot of great photography with say, just the Samyang 85mm and the plastic fantastic DA35.
