Wow, check out the pixel shift on and off comparison of the still life flower arrangement. Very very impressive. And it's taken with the 28-105 "cheap kit zoom".
It is like comparing 2D with 3D.....incredibly distinct difference in the image quality between the two.

Thanks. I must look more into focusing screens. A quick look on focusingscreen.com and I saw a few that seemed to come with and without grids on them/af frames etc. If you get one without a grid on then even when you turn the option on in the camera nothing shows? I'll start a proper thread on this stuff once I do some more homework. I wish I lived closer so I could peep through your viewfinder!
I'd recommend a plain screen and staying away from any etchings done to the focusing screen themselves. The screen I got for my K5 had them and occasionally I'd have metering errors whenever I shot in portrait orientation. I had no idea why and on one of the threads (there are several regarding viewfinder focusing screens) a couple of people mentioned how the etchings could cause faults in metering. Hence my K-1 screen has none and doesn't need them as I can turn the cameras framing/AF aids on and off as I desire. I recommend leaving them off as from yesterday's time with them on they were only a distraction for my eye as I was trying to focus. Oh, I also tend to focus with both eyes open when using the viewfinder and the framing/AF thingies kept putting me off.

As there's plenty of info around here on focusing screens already I thought I'd add some of the ones I've contributed to as most if not all your questions are likely to be answered in them. Despite the different camera models the process is pretty much the same or identical.

Very smoky around here but no close fires. It's coming from AZ and NM and coming in thick at times!

K-1 and fa 31mm f 1.8

Bug shot from Kingwood Garden in Mansfield, Ohio, and scene from our garden back home in Medina,Ohio. I used the K-1 and 31mm limited all day Saturday, and still trying to like it as much on K-1 as on K-3.

Dancing?

Taken yesterday in horrible light... to get reasonable shutter speeds I had to shoot at silly high 8000 asa (sorry iso, showing my age again ) which explains the graininess.
