OK, curious for an opinion here. There may be other technical merits to each photo, but strictly composition and overall appeal wise, do you prefer photo 1, with a little closer straight on angle of the single bloom, or the 2nd photo, that includes a partial background bloom in the bokeh??? I know which I like better, but am curious what others think. Thanks in advance.

As a side note, it has been WET and dismal most weekends when I can get out and shoot lately. Weather seals and decent high iso performance have been a real help to keep me from throwing in the towel and just staying home.

First one for me.
I would have liked the second better if 1. the OoF flower was included completely and 2. if it was not aligned, e.g. bigger in-focus flower on bottom left (or top left), smaller OoF flower on top right (or bottom right).

I took this one two days ago at morning sunrise. Image is of a Canadian Coast Guard Cutter at the north end of Baynes Sound. Sunrise produced a wonderful backlighting to the ship. The Pacific Coastal Mountains share in the Glory. Image taken with my K1 Mark II paired with a Sigma 70-200 HSM OS

From just these two I'd say the first is better. But if you had one with three elements instead of one or two, that might be even better. Compositionally, two elements is generally considered weaker than one or three with three usually topping one (depending).
Also having the oof flower cut off is not as good as either in or out of the frame.

Ok. First one is not in the centre, for one flower, I prefer that. Second one I would have preferred to see the background flower entirely... The colour and focus is perfect on both.

Just one more from Vivid, this one is a stack (longer and shorter exposure);

Initially I went through my shots and culled the shorter exposure ones because I felt the overall scene lacked the sharpness and resolution (as well as starbursts etc) that I was seeking.
I then recovered one of the shots and stacked it another longer exposure shot I took (the pink and green shot from earlier). You can tell because the water is pink in reflection teehee....

But I think this worked out quite well, next year I'll use this strategy more and try for a longer exposure for the operahouse, water, people and lights, and then a shorter exposure for the light effects on the sails itself. Hopefully if I manage the task well I can get matching colours on the sail and on the water.

Some more night hockey with the D-FA* 70-200mm. Compared to the D-FA 150-450 the shorter lens was more responsive and faster to lock onto a subject.
