Another issue I remember from my film days, Tiffen & B&W made special "Thin" skylight and polarizer filters, because some UW lenses vignette with a normal filter, and others do it with a normal filter behind the stock hood, because just the filter was added behind the hood... worth mentioning on the K-1 thread, since I see many here testing old lenses on K-1. All lenses I am testing, I remove all filters and hoods, for the quick test at least.

Hoods are nice to have on Tele, but for most wides or ultra wides, I just hold my free hand over side of lens that the sun is coming from to cast a shadow over the front element, usually works as well or better than hoods, heh heh. I think somebody had a gizmo that mounted into your flash shoe with a flex arm like and a black playing card that you could swing into place for similar function.

Lemme see if I can find a pic... yup! B&H even still sells a current version of the thing. These work surprisingly well at reducing flare without vignette in my experience, and are certainly better than no lens hood at all.

it's pictures like this that make be love the K-1. This is taken hand held at 6:30 am this morning at 6400 ISO F/4 and 1/320sec with an FA 135. It's cropped and probably would have fit in the 1/2 frame footprint but I
almost always leave something to crop in photo shop

Well, a little more Google-Fu reveals a quick answer. Made by a company called Dinkum, available at B&H

Predawn at Hindostan.

Sunset.

Both are with the DFA 24-70 (I think both are pixel shifted as well).

I enjoy looking through this thread and I do every day. The K-1 and the photographers here are very impressive!

I finally got a chance to get up and try out my K-1 on a sunrise. These are pixel shift shots, taken this morning. I am very impressed by the increased dynamic range you get with PS. Also, the D FA 28-105, my copy at least, isn't really super sharp at 105mm. Pixel shift takes care of that. I processed these first in DCU (white balance, Fine Sharpening) and then made a few adjustments in LR. I also ran them through Nik Color Efex just to boost saturation a little.

First images posted from my k1

I am totally pleased with my K1.

Compared to my K3ii I notice better dynamic range, having to take fewer hdr. Better low noise at medium iso. I used to always shoot at 100 iso, Now I begin at 400 and find no noise. And better low light performance, meaning I don't need fill flash as often.

Here are 2 images I wanted to share.

First one was with my amazing 15 - 30 and the second was with my super sharp 24-70.

Been gone two weeks to the Oregon coast...a 5400 mile round trip. I have a lot of catching up here on the viewing of the fine K1 shots posted....

I didn't take a lot of shots with the K1...most of my time was spent driving. Mrs Rupert worked her Toy Camera X10 pretty hard along the way.

Here is one of my K1 shots in FF mode using my new Tamron 70-200 2.8

Glad to be home and back to my Crop Mode with the Bigma 50-500! Say what you want...I love the K1 Crop Mode!

That's what he's saying...."Shoot me in Crop Mode!"

Regards!
