She is overheated, so the corn poped inside

Surprised to find that the DA 55-300 is actually doing quite well on the K-1.

Wow, very impressive! Do you need to crop all the way to APSC size?

Some K-1 / 15-30mm goodness
This was actually pretty underexposed to keep from blowing out the sky.
I am quite amazed at how much detail can be pulled from darker areas without being overly noisy.
I did use 2 exposures merged in Photomatix but with all the local contrast turned off to keep from looking overly HDRish.
Both exposures shot with PS turned on and processed through DCU, so really 8 images merged
Final processing in Lightroom for shadow and highlight balance and cropping.
Not the easiest workflow

There you go again Frederick, making me hungry... That Art lens is almost like being there, without the calories.

Did you have to do any cropping? What focal length and aperture?

You can click on the photo to see all the details. Normally from 26-28mm on in FF mode I don't need to crop...

Rupert, I noticed while peeking at your EXIF, that your OOC JPG Sharpness=Normal... The conventional wisdom has been posted to use Fine Sharpness, but set it to minus 3.

So, I tried that, and it didn't look near as good to my eyes as regular sharpness... and to make matters more interesting, I also noted that if you crank Fine Sharpness up at all, you get the dreaded sharpening halo, where as with regular sharpness, it just looks sharper when you crank it up, might eventually see some JPG artifacts, but no halo like with Fine Sharpness.

Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else noticed anything like this or am I nuts?

Thanks,

I use Focus Magic instead of the Fine Sharpness setting most of the time...and mostly use Raw+ and process the Raw. Yes, I think you are right about the halos using Fine Sharpness to excess.

She goes to the Beauty Parlor three times a week.....so she says?

You might try Focus Magic, it is excellent......my Bigma is usually off in sharpness a couple of pixels and I haven't found anything that corrects it better than Focus Magic. Squirrels are very particular about "looking sharp"!

Best Regards
