Wow, very impressive! Do you need to crop all the way to APSC size?
No not at all, it's only vignetting all the way in the corners actually!

Take a look at this example from the DA 55-300. Zoomed out to 300mm, ISO400, f10 and set to FF mode.

First one without any corrections, second with lightroom lens profile corrections.

Without lens correction.

With Lightroom's lens correction.

Some K-1 / 15-30mm goodness
This was actually pretty underexposed to keep from blowing out the sky.
I am quite amazed at how much detail can be pulled from darker areas without being overly noisy.
I did use 2 exposures merged in Photomatix but with all the local contrast turned off to keep from looking overly HDRish.
Both exposures shot with PS turned on and processed through DCU, so really 8 images merged
Final processing in Lightroom for shadow and highlight balance and cropping.
Not the easiest workflow

Nice, but the photo and text description on Flickr actually give credit to the 24-70?

I was lazy and forgetful when I posted to flickr. I'll have to fix my flickr description. I looked at the original RAW files and it was the 15-30 (18mm @f16, 3s).

Did this tonight playing with my new FA31 ltd on my K1. I learned that this lens really needs stopped down a little when doing this, but still not bad.

It actually gave me an idea. Next time I am bring a really bright flashlight and swinging it along them while doing the exposure.

If you can balance the light it can really work well.

Experimented with the multiexposure. I used 20 shots Average, f10, 1/400th exposure time and 14mm samyang

Im realy happy with the result. I got rid of the mosqitos and other bugs, the water got smooth, the clouds smoothed out.
Downside. The boat rocked and produced double images, an issue i should be able to fix with PS and the single exposure.

Finished image
