Some might be shameless re-posts below,

HD PENTAX-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6ED DC AW /6.3 450.0 mm 1/1250 iso160

HD PENTAX-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6ED DC AW /9.0 380.0 mm 1/2500 iso640

A little left to right action, definitely harder to time...

that is true, just as with raindrops, you can little a bit anticipate where and what is going to land/jump. But think about the same when it was something more rare to jump, like pike. yet, they do jump.

Oops ... I skipped over a flower shot with the P. Angnieux 90/1.8 Type P1. Wide open again and this should be a very interesting lens to use a bit more this Spring. (x-post from the Bokeh thread)

About capturing unpredictable events. I wrestled with that problem on the Galapagos. The marine iguanas excrete salt using a special gland in their nostril. They blow or "sneeze" it out in a fairly spectacular way, but the lizard gives no clue when it will happen. Back then, using a ZX5n, I could have run through four rolls of film and never caught the event.Tried maybe eight times to anticipate before giving up, but I did get eight marine iguana portraits.
Sounds like a prime usage case for the 'pre-capture' feature in some mirrorless cameras.

Few pictures from Vacaresti Park in Bucharest (actually this is a delta that somehow formed in the middle of the city).
