I'm torn between these two, I kinda like the negative space on the first one, without him looking at me, but, the detail in the second one with a tighter crop in post, with eye contact is hard to not like.
Got a preference? (there is no wrong answer)
The first one is nice, but the second startled me. It's a real eye-grabber and IMHO hands down a superior image.

Thanks volley, love your wolves! Now I'll throw you a curve... here is the uncropped version of the second shot... so same composition as the first shot.
Personally, I still have a hard time choosing and like you, lean towards the first one a little. I guess it is because I kinda like the feeling of being the undetected onlooker to a natural setting in the first one, where in the second one, he is giving me a visual "gotcha!" I like it also, but it evokes a totally different vibe for me. The first one is "Vibrant greens and observing nature", the second one is "I see you wise guy, now what?"

Thanks pbancr!

Thanks WPRESTO ! I like a strong opinion, and I can see why it would grab you. So much color and detail the K-1 grabs with the DFA100WR... and the natural lighting just made it pop.
The $64K question is, do you like it as much when uncropped seen above?
Eric

Hmmm ... for the 2nd shot the cropped version works better for me. Of course this just a matter of personal taste. You are right about the "gotcha!" impression in the 2nd shot and this is even more pronounced in the cropped version, I guess. What a luxury problem having to pick one of two excellent shots!!

Another profile shot

I had another go at profiles of Rio with rim lighting. i am liking this one. Comments appreciated.

K1 + DFA* 50mm 1.4

I used a reflector dish from the right and slightly behind him to create the rim lichting. A very weak umbrella from front right as weak fill, and a snoot from above and behind left to light the top of his head.

Smashing capture. I wonder if a tighter, perhaps square crop might be even better ?
