Thank you for the kind words Eric. Man I love that Soligor bokeh. Funny thing is that of that set of bird photos the last one is my favorite shot. My hope is to have sketches down of the 1st; 3rd and last. And some might find it hard to believe but I am rather picky about the settings and my framing of the bird shots. I often talk to the birds telling them to change their pose and location. Some times the secondary element can certainly enhance a photograph. Or have quite the opposite effect.

Best Regards, Bob

Aaah Frederic, you never fail to provide me with a really good laugh. No doubt you would shoot the bear and then fix a fancy meal of it to photograph like you do with the birds and rabbits...

When I get a new lens, I run it through standard test shots inside and outside of my home. I just finished adapting this latest lens, and it's dark outside so I took a couple of test shots in my kitchen. Handheld, jpg, 800 ISO, wide open.

Before buying this lens I read from a couple of users that this old lens was one of their favorite bokeh lenses. Well, being a bokeholic I just had to buy one.

Well, based on this test shot, I'm really liking what I'm seeing - realistic colors, 3D pop, acceptable sharpness, and super creamy bokeh.

The lens is the Nikkor Q Auto 200mm f/4 non-Ai lens (second version). You are not going to believe this, but I paid only $35 for this like new copy on Ebay!!!

I've adapted over 100 lenses in my lens shop. This one was actually quite challenging and took me a couple of hours to do. As far as I know, I'm the only person shooting this lens on a full frame Pentax K-1 camera.

This old Nikkor vintage 1970's, is extremely well built and has only 4 elements in 4 groups. Talk about a simple / basic optical design - only the MOG Trioplan has fewer elements (3).

Simple, high quality, cheap - what's not to like?

Thanks, I always appreciate seeing what non FF lenses can be like at certain focal lengths on the K-1.

Lovely shots. I have that F28, it's wickedly awesome on the K-1, enough to put my FA31 desires at bay for awhile!
Hi Bruce, maybe you are interested in my "review" of the lens in the Pentax lens section. I just added some more information and hints.

The Story Of "Forget-me-not x-rayed"

Some words about the DA*11-18 used with K-1 in FF mode.

To get an indication of details in different image areas let's walk through an experiment using my x-ray method applied to the first image of my last post.
Capture: K1, FF mode, DA*11-18@16, angle of view 96° x 73° - ISO100, f/8, 1/30s - handheld, image processing in Capture One Pro.

1. The original image - only a little bit post processing without vignetting correction

2. Converted to black & white with some tweaks to make it low-key ...

3. Inverted with minor tweaks - this is my x-ray image ...

IMO every image state shows some unique appeal.

Thanks Bobby! Its a fun lens in small doses, but can be overwhelming if you over do it, so I look for unique opportunites to try out new idea with it. I love it when I can get a whole blossom in focus at F2.8 and the rest of the bokeh goes to bubbles and water color paintings.

Sketches? Sounds great, of course we'll want to see pictures of the sketches of your pictures, ya know!?!

Frederic the photo of the Pink Fingers is super superb, I really like it. That is the sorta shots I see in my minds eye and hope to capture. Guess I'll have to start practicing but doubt I could match that photo.
