I've been up to the top of Cinder Cone several times five, six, seven years, but not in recent years. The so-called "Pink Lady Nipple" is really "The Painted Dunes," which are viewed from atop Cinder Cone. It's about a mile hike to Cinder Cone and then 1,000 foot elevation hike up a pile of very fine Volcanic rock — it's like walking in loose sand, not easy at all. Both of the times I've scaled Cinder Cone in the evening to photograph the Painted Dunes I ran across some rather stiff winds which made it very difficult to get sharp shots of the dunes below in the evening when the light was dimming. (It didn't help that I was using a version of the F 70-210 which wasn't all that sharp at long distances). With the K-1 probably the best lens to use for that shot would be something like the DFA* 70-200. But that would be a rather heavy lens to drag up that pile of volcanic sand. Note that it's a rather dusty place.
