Lovely rose but it would be nice if you listed the lens.

I've not been using my K-1 II enough so I'm stuffing it into my flightbag to take to work. One of the first shots:

Cathay Pacific A350-900 somewhere over Belarus. The 28-105 at 105mm.

Brief encounter

A nice evening. I‘m in the inner yard of the ancient townhall building. Some people are walking around looking at the ancient walls holding up these common small devices that they use for communication and taking images. I want to make some photographs too. The building with yellow light in windows is shining down at me. But where I stand it‘s nearly dark. I set up my travel tripod with K-1 and L bracket. Can‘t see the AF button on my K-1 - only feel. I'm starting to compose the image using live view. The building is tall. Hard to get it framed as I’d like. Decide to use the DA*11-18 in FF mode, portrait orientation. To get a very wide angle without too much vignetting I remove the protecting uv filter and hood and move the zoom ring to 15mm focal length. While I‘m composing the image I realize someone behind me looking over my shoulder - I think I heard the word beautifull. I turn around, looking into two interested friendly faces. A couple from Japan I guess. I smile back and say hello! We could have had a nice little talk but they seemed to feel caught and turn away … I push the button of my cable release ...

K-1 • FF mode • DA*11-18 @ 15 (w/o filter / hood, in exif shown as 16) • ISO100 • f/8 • 30s

Nice image. There is a lot of foreground, so I guess you struggled to fit all in the frame without too much distorsion. Did you use the composition adjust feature of your camera (sensor shift) to reduce the vertical perspective distorsion?

Thanks ... and no, in this case I didn‘t remember the possibility and opportunity to use the composition adjustment tool. It‘s a tool I should use more often to get it into „automatic practice“.

Maybe the sensor shift wouldn't work if the lens image circle was limiting what can be fitted in the frame.

You’re right, in this case there would have been strong vignetting since 15mm is the absolute „without-strong-vignetting-limit“ when using the DA*11-18 in K-1 FF mode. I guess 16mm w/o uv filter / hood should work. At 18 it does work. I already used it to make a PT Gui „panorama“ with full left and and right pan composition adjustment images. I think I posted the result in this thread some posts ago.

In this instance I like the patterns in the foreground. If you don't, crop out some of it. We don't have to always shoot the world in 3:2 ratio. Enjoyed the story along with the image.
Thanks for sharing,

I was here twice, the first time in the spring of 2013 and the second in the spring of 2017.

The best option is to arrive in the evening at 4-5, to get to know the place it's located only few hundred meters from parking lot, choose places for shooting and shoots before sunset and sunset,
then go back to the parking lot, to eat, to relax and then return at 10-11 for a night shots.

After ending shooting again return to the parking lot, to sleep for several hours, wake up before sunrise and again return to shoot the sunrise and shoot until the sun has risen too high.

Then again return to the parking lot, to have coffee and breakfast and continue to drive to the South Coyotes, this is not far from the White Pocket, you only need to get a permit.
All of these are great captures.

The reflection in the second shot is especially good!
