Very strong colour and contrast choice. Good stuff.

She deserves an expensive portrait lens to photograph her! (I'm giving you arguments to use in case you're considering of buying a FA 77lmtd or something like that!)
Redpit- excellent response- thank you.

Jackie Stewart is a true gentleman of sport. I think he would be happy to be thought of in the same sentence as this old locomotive. The engine predates the racing driver's birth by I think about 15 years however.

In 4 years time the Flying Scotsman will be 100 years old. The fact that two days ago it was quite happy hauling 15 carraiges and over 200 persons effortlessly all day is testament to the creativity of its designers and the skill of those who still look after her.

Here is a video I found on youtube of our train crossing the Ribblehead Viaduct on Saturday. Dont miss the bit at the end when it thunders through Penrith station on the way home at an estimated 75 mph ! 60103 Flying Scotsman The FS Christmas Dalesman 21/12/2019 - YouTube
Thank you so much for posting that video. What an awesome piece of engineering. I have always loved the old steam locomotives, did some fairly good pen & ink sketches of them many years ago. For 15 years we had a steam train running thru this area, actually right thru our front yard roughly 10 meters from the house. Ten years ago they stopped running and converted to a bike trail. I took some photos with my old Pentax point & shoot, will have to find the prints and copy them with the K-1 and post them. Also I was very much a fan of Jackie Stewart, it put a smile on my face when George posted his remark. I guess for the 3 of us it tells of our age...

Best Regards, Bob

Frosty and the Reindeer performing Walnut Fudge, available on iTunes.

Mamie Eisenhower's Million Dollar Fudge

Ingredients:

1 package (12 ounce size) semisweet chocolate chips
1 package (12 ounce size) milk chocolate chips
1 jar (7 ounce size) marshmallow creme
1 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 cups sugar
1 can (12 ounce size) evaporated skimmed milk
2 tablespoons butter or margarine

Directions:

Line a 13- x 9- x 2-inch baking pan with foil, extending the foil over edges of pan. Lightly butter foil; set aside.

In a large bowl, combine the semisweet chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, marshmallow creme, walnuts, and vanilla.

In a heavy large saucepan, stir together the sugar, evaporated skimmed milk, and butter. Bring to boil over moderate heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon to dissolve sugar. (Avoid splashing mixture onto side of pan.) Lower the heat to moderately low. Stir and boil for 1 2 minutes. Remove from heat.

Carefully pour the boiling mixture over the chocolate mixture. Stir until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is creamy and well combined. Quickly turn the fudge into prepared pan. While fudge is warm, use the tip of a small knife to score into 1-inch squares.

When fudge is firm, lift it out of pan; cut into squares. To store, cover tightly and refrigerate.

Cutting Fudge: By lining the pan with foil, you can remove the fudge quickly and easily. When the candy is firm, grasp the foil and lift the block of fudge out of the pan. Remove the foil and place the candy on a cutting board.

Using a long-bladed, serrated knife, such as a bread knife, cut along the lines scored in the fudge. To get a smooth even cut, place one hand on the knife handle and the other on the top of the blade, then press down evenly until the knife cuts through the candy.

3 image focus stack, processed in Photoshop.

Pentax K-1, Helios 44K-2 58mm f2.0.

Just a tail slap The whales were not breaching just lazing in the water before heading down south for the summer.
Taken in South Australia at the head of the Bight. We got there at the end of the whale season.

Test shots from today ... K-1, DA*11-18 and Haida M10 (100mm filter system):

- Drop-in light barrier
- ND 10-stop
- GND 0.9

I wanted to know how wide I can go without dark corners. Test scenario not a classic one for a 10-stop ND filter. Doesn't matter, I guess.

Result: the M10 filter system is usable at 18 and 17mm for the K-1 - DA*11-18mm combo in FF mode. For real 16mm I get dark corners. APS-C works across the whole 11-18 mm range.

The following images are captured at 17mm (16mm is shown in the exif data, K-1 FF mode). Some vignetting correction in Capture One Pro 20.

ISO100 • f/11 • 3s

ISO100 • f/2.8 • 1.6s, B&W conversion in Capture One Pro

ISO100 • f/11 • 1/100s
