Just a tail slap The whales were not breaching just lazing in the water before heading down south for the summer.
Taken in South Australia at the head of the Bight. We got there at the end of the whale season.

Test shots from today ... K-1, DA*11-18 and Haida M10 (100mm filter system):

- Drop-in light barrier
- ND 10-stop
- GND 0.9

I wanted to know how wide I can go without dark corners. Test scenario not a classic one for a 10-stop ND filter. Doesn't matter, I guess.

Result: the M10 filter system is usable at 18 and 17mm for the K-1 - DA*11-18mm combo in FF mode. For real 16mm I get dark corners. APS-C works across the whole 11-18 mm range.

The following images are captured at 17mm (16mm is shown in the exif data, K-1 FF mode). Some vignetting correction in Capture One Pro 20.

ISO100 • f/11 • 3s

ISO100 • f/2.8 • 1.6s, B&W conversion in Capture One Pro

ISO100 • f/11 • 1/100s

This is the last of my mini series of old pocket watches.

100mm Macro WR with a 3-light setup. Shot through a hole in a reflector to get specular highlights in the clockwork. Background shot in a second frame without the reflector. Pixelshifted.

Tethered with IT2 to Capture One, Processed with DCU5 and final edits with Affinity Photo.

The local jeweler who borrowed me the watch liked it and ordered a print and even a custom made frame to hang it in his workshop.

Superb pocket watch photo. Appreciate the illustrations explaining the set up.
