Great Heron shot! As someone who lusts after the 150-450 , I hate to impose, but would love to know the exif on that shot, so I can relate to chasing Heron's on my Tamron 70-200... would you mind saying what end of the zoom you were at, fstop, iso and shutter, and weather on a tripod or handheld? The beautiful bokeh leads me to think you were fairly wide open. Also wondering if this is cropped much?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Hi Eric! Thank you very much! Glad to hear that you liked it!
I've actually kept the EXIF information for such reason, but can write too.
450mm, F7.1, 1/2000, ISO-500, -0.7; and the weather condition was just great, no wind, no humidity, no evaporation from water surface; and of course best light in the day, which I usually take my photos. It gives warm/yellowish dramatic light effect which is my best choice! I don’t use a sturdy tripod or something like that, because I don’t like carry so much stuff together with me in the field. For high shutter speed there is no need too.
I can share some more closest shoot/s of this beauty. It came “close enough” to me approx. 2-3m. So I can say it is quite possible with a 70-200mm lens IMO or can be even better with 1.4 TC.
Best!

PS: I was forgot to write about crop. Yeah, it has crop but not more than APS-C size in the camera.

This is the IMGP0006 numbered photo which I have taken with my new K-1.

I have spent almost two weeks to get this photo of little shy cuty.

Ahhh.... perfect, thanks, that is exactly the kind of info I wanted. I see a couple complain about trying to hand hold the Bigma at the long end, but they are not in same type of light or shutter speed as you are with the big Pentax... Bigtax? Anywho... As with everything, the user counts as much as the tool. I have been able to stalk up pretty close to Herons with my Tamron 70-200 f2.8, and my Tamron Pz 1.4x TC helps @ 280mm, but it looses a tiny bit of quality. Not sure if the loss is about equal to what a longer, slower zoom would give, and I haven't tried a 2x, I don't have an AF 2x converter, but do have an old Takumar A MF 2x, but I'm not sure its in the same class, or how well I'll be able to MF it. Worth a try I guess for turning it into a 400mm 5.6... I'll put it on my to-do list to try, Heh.

Man, talk about thread drift! Sorry folks... and thanks again for the info Ogun!
Eric

Love this little guy, with his proud tail up, he looks almost like a little bantam more than a wallflower.

Two superb shots there.

I somehow don't get on with the 150-450 quite as well as The DA300, but maybe I should calibrate the lens and get ten times more patient! You've definitely inspired me to try again.

It was a pleasure for me Eric; thank you too. I have also used Bigma (OS HSM one) with K-5, hand hold.

Thank you very much John! DA300 + 1.4x and 150-450, both are awesome. Please write me and send some samples, then we can discuss about problem.

Best!

Cheers, that's a very kind offer, I'll send some when back at the computer in a couple of days. I'm determined to improve my results with the lens.
