I think there's a definite argument for the FA limiteds in addition to the 15-30 and 24-70. However in my opinion, this difference is more pronounced for portrait and still life than for landscape applications.

In particular, the FA77 gives portrait rendering that simply can't be achieved with 24-70. FA 43 is useful for environmental portraits and pets, but I would argue not quite as distinct from the 24-70 as the FA77 wide open. I can't comment on FA31, I've never tried it.

I've seen some great low light shots with the FA limiteds and this could be another area of differentiation. Size and weight are obviously a factor (as, may be, the lack of weather sealing on th FALs). FALs are applied by some (not me) for amazing street photography and this is surely another area where the unobtrusive size and unique rendering shines. Finally the filter size for FA-L is far cheaper and easier to manage!

Thanks everyone for their comments.

So I ended up ordering

K-1
28-105mm
31mm Ltd
43mm Ltd
77mm Ltd
24-70mm 2.8

I'm having already huge buyers remorse (and a huge hole in my wallet) so I want to return at least one lens.

Also I'm mainly using Fuji so I am used to small and light gear and I am worried about the size and weight of the 24-70mm on top of the already larger k1. But then I tell myself I already have the fuji and when weight and size matters I can just take the fuji instead.

Which lens or lenses should be returned? (Must be at least 1)

Help!

Congratulations! You will get as many opinions as you need here - there's no right answer. The K-1 and quality glass is addictive. At the risk of hijacking this thread (maybe start a new one?), I think you'll cope with the weight when you see the benefits, and soon get addicted to K-1 (or at least, that is how it worked for me).

If you don't find the 24-70 too heavy then you could return the 28-105, but you will want the 24-28mm range I think. My picks of your list to keep are 24-70 and 77. Both just perfect on K-1 for me. But I am sure others will punt for the 31/43/77 combo and the lightweight 28-105. I would personally send the (pricy) 31, the 43 or 28-105 back if you have to. But definitely keep one of the zooms and the 77!

John

Wow, that SuperMoon must have bit you hard! Heh heh.

IQ vs/ size & weight wise, I would return the 24-70, which would give you the biggest wallet relief and still leave you with best optical bang for the buck.
Second I would return might be the 43ltd. It's a very fine lens, but the 31 and 77 cover the most useful ranges for me.

That would leave you with a WR walkabout zoom of very good IQ in a reasonable weight package, and 2 very small light primes of high quality for portraits, landscapes, street photography etc.

Then, I would just take my time and shoot what you have until we see what they release in 2017, and see what your budget is up for by then. A new wide prime is on the map, and would round out that kit nicely.

Just my .02,
Eric

PS: this might be best in a thread of it's own in the main K-1 forum...

Why decide now? Assuming you ordered from somewhere reputable, take advantage of your folly and try them all out for a week or so.

One of the zooms is what I would return. They (mostly) overlap and will be the biggest and most expensive of all those. Whatever you do, don't return the 77!

I've been trying the smc PENTAX FA 20-35mm F4 AL by night with some 30 sec long exposure.
It's good but if you set your aperture above /f10 or f/11 it brings a hell of flares. Dont know if it's my copy of the lens.

The one below was taken at /f8, 30 seconds, iso100.

I would return the 28-105mm considering you have the 24-70mm.

And yet another opinion. I'd keep the 28-105 for a light weight combo and return the 24-70. But if the light weight option isn't necessary and you want weather proof lenses, keep the 24-70, send everything else back (not the K-1) and get the 70-200. Then again, if you prefer the prime option, send the two zooms back, keep the Tres Amigos, and add a used FA 24 or 20. Am I helpful or what?
