Hi Michiel,
when a boy until my five years old in late 60's, I used to come on holidays (actually, my parents used to take me there with my four brothers) at the Vierville/Mer's Hotel (Omaha beach). I didn't have the opportunity to come back there before I turned 40. Of all days, it finally happened: one of my brothers accidently found the last land to sell and built a house on the cliff overlooking this magical "bloody" landing beach where we used to play... When I came back later at passed 40 years old, all my souvenirs banged my face and I could notice that nothing had ghanged since my childhood: iodin smells, sea walls, blockhaus where we used to play in (blocked for years)... Nevertheless, although nothing changed from this time (World Heritage Site), I now find the beach smaller than in my souvenirs.. But the grounded warship in front of the beach has been taken off since kids used to play on and drowning in it in 90's...
So your photos of Normandy reminds me of pictures that awaken childhood memories. Thank you.
