I had the grip, I always have in fact and especially with the Heavyweight Champion 70-200mm it makes a nice balance.
A little bit more story here :
As I said the guys I met are real into BIF and nature shooting, some of them are retired pro shooters from around Paris, and I used to meet them quiet often a couple years ago. They like to shoot around the lake where I live.
At the time we spent some time together, I was using the K3, brand new, with mainly my sigma 70-200mm and some landscapes lenses, to be honest they were never really interested in trying any of my gear. They all knew about Pentax stuff, they all owned some Pentax cameras back in the days but they simply were not interested by anything beside Canon or Nikon. Most of them double FF and APSC format when hiking by the way.
So last time we met, I was really stunned that they not only wanted to try my stuff but also asked questions about K1 and kept shooting for a long time. They told me that they heard about this K1 being pretty good but didnt realised it was that good built and the 70-200mm impressed them as well.
After trying the K1 the next question would be what lenses do Pentax has on the long reach ? I talked about the 150-450 and they were really convinced by the 70-200mm, but for them it's too few choices, no Tamron 150-600mm ? Where are the Sigma's ? etc.
On the other hand I tried the 7Dmk2 with Tamron 150-600mm...Wow...that's in another league for action shooting let's be honest, and that AF is sooo snappy it makes me dream about the day Pentax will have an AF equivalent offer...on this day they will probably kill the market lol
This Canon-Tamron combo was super light by the way, impressed!
