Time for a little Kiddie story for the boys & girls this morning.

"I was chosen to check the sap spout on the Peanut Tree this morning.....It's a tough job, but someone has to do it."

"This is dangerous work...damn good that I am plenty brave!"

"Well here I go...wish me luck!"

"Two weeks ago Chucky did the inspection, sap shot out and blew his damn head off!"

That's all folks!

Regards!
Thanks Rupert! Now don't you go running off looking for a K5... I saw that "other" post!

I need a back up...what can be better than K5IIs? Nothing!

Mourning dove....said she was mourning the death of Chucky Squirrel in that sap accident, but said she "wasn't mourning much!"

I guess the concept of a soft focus portrait isn't in your photographic vocabulary. It's always the way. Those who are the most critical often are caught up in the limitations of their own knowledge of photographic expression.

Pentax K-1 Tamron SP AF 70-200mm F2.8 Di LD [IF] Macro /4.5 122.5 mm 1/500 iso100

There is no moire or jpg, or sharpening artifacts in the original of woodies feathers at 100% view, but for some reason I see a bit here on the forum, prolly due to Flickr, forum resizing, and other posting artifacts.
Oh well... It is silly sharp and that prolly makes it worse.

For those that are curious, I've shared a link to full size below woody, and I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts.

Thanks eaglem!

Great water lillies, similar to a variety we have here in size and color, but the petal config is different. Very nice, thanks for sharing those. I have some of our locals in the queue to post, but might be a little while before I get to them.

Female bighorn sheep*. Had to focus the DA300 manually in Utah because AF quit the first time I put it on the camera. Then after being home a couple weeks and thinking about sending it for repair, it just started working again - annoying, confusing, implanting apprehensions.

*Super careless and thoughtless with the original post. Name of the animal corrected. Witless me.

FS- As I scrolled down slowly I was so proud of you! You had finally mastered a superb moon shot! Sure, there was that little hot pixel in the upper right, but otherwise, it appeared perfect. Then as I scrolled on down, I saw that you haven't learned a damn thing!

Hi
Very well said, agree with what you are saying and it is usually me who is saying such things, and I cop flak for it, but it needs to be said. I admire your courage.

However, in my humble opinion (some may say misguided opinion) in soft portraits pretty well everything should be uniformly "soft" and it should not look like as if it was a focusing mistake, such as some parts of the image being more in focus then others. (Or less, as it may be) It then looks like a depth of field error.

Soft look portraits are not easily obtained with a normal lens but either require a special lens, filter or a bit of Vaseline.

Cheers

P.S.
1 photograph out of focus is a mistake
10 is an experiment
100 is a style.

Yea, I was - although sounds like going further back historically it probably flooded/evaporated many times over, prior to the blunder that created it in its most recent iteration. Quite a wasteland feel to it now - everything covered with salt deposits and barnacles and dead fish lying about everywhere - but still some nice photos to be had

Went back and looked at the original - blown up. It is not a focus problem. The problem is to and fro movement - either by me or her during the exposure. Image stabilization can't do anything about getting closer and farther away during exposure, and sadly humans are not tripods and do move.
