I haven't gone through everything yet but there are definitely some missed focus shots in there. Not that many from a quick go through but I noticed some as I shot them for sure. For these wide and close action shots I used a Tamron 28-75/2.8, AF-C, and all 33 AF points. Fast shutter speeds allowed me to pan with the action but keep the background sharp. I was close, maybe 5 ft away which probably helped a lot. So does pre-focusing at about the right distance before the action burst. Most of this shoot which went on for three days was not fast action and AF on more static scenes had no issues whatsoever.
The longer action shots where I was getting a rider coming at me with a nice view behind them had a lower hit rate. I shot the Tamron 70-200/2.8 and similar settings as above but with a smaller AF area (9 or 11 points, selectable). Even though the hit rate was lower I still got the shots I needed. And the missed AF was just locked on to the wrong thing in my shot which is not that big of a flaw IMO. The camera does not know what I'm trying to shoot. I wonder if the Pentax 70-200 would have done any differently.
