Yeah, I'm with him, #2 is awesome! Mostly because it seems a bit better balanced for light level by including more of that gorgeous sky.
#1 is very cool too, but my eye is drawn mostly to the blurred wave in motion and dark areas than the sky. You could probably reframe # 1 enough with the 24-70 to get an eqaually pleasing shot, plus #2 is later timeline and more light, because I have seen similar shots to #2 from the 24-70, only with a narrower field of view. Does any of that make sense? Heh.
