@hpk this is a wonderful pic and no noise is evident! In your opinion what the larger size you could downscale the image and the noise doesn't seem to bother? (I mean without any PP).

A20/2.8 acquired especially for the K-1 to replace my DA15 Ltd

I'm indeed impressed with the A20.

Great colour on the first shot.

Fabulous B&W in the second. Was that straight out of camera JPEG?

Or you separately processed it with external software?

I wanted to test the K-1 with some action. So i worked as a photographer at the national championship in Pole Sport this weekend. As i have said before, the new AF system works!!!! This is taken with K-1 with 70-200mm with the 1.4 converter on. Its of course no speed monster with fps, but with correct timing, no problem to shoot action. Guy beside me used Nikon..Sounded like he was shooting a gatling gun he took 7-8 pics for every one i took!

I happened to be in the city this afternoon and the conditions were ideal to test the dynamic range of the K-1.
I must say I am impressed. The K-1 is really fast and so responsive in every respect.

Are you using astro feature ? I was wondering because the trees are blurry... Or is it just the wind ? That's actually a question I had. Since the sensor is moving to compensate for the rotation of the earth, it means everything "attached" to the earth should appear blurry ? So you trading start trails for blurry foregrounds... Or do we have to use astrotracer only for full sky shot without any foreground ?

I doubt he would need astrotracer with a 10 second SS shot. Depending on how wide the lens is, I typically use the 300 rule with hi-res sensors (as opposed to the 500 rule with up to 20mp sensors). So when using a 28mm lens, (300/28 = 10.71) you can shoot up to 11 seconds before seeing star trails or needing to activate the astrotracer.


On the second part of your question, if you have foreground elements in the shot with astrotracer turned on, then you would need a second shot with astrotracer off, and then blend the 2 (non-blurry parts) images in post.

A20 won't be close in the starburst department, only 6 blade aperture = 6 point star.

A couple portraits from this evening, Sigma 24-60mm f/2.8, both wide open.

Not quite right. The A20 has 5 blades, so it produces a 10 pointed star. However. The flare resistance of the A20 (and for that matter the K18) is rubbish compared to the DA15 (older coatings, older optical designs). You may be able to tease a good looking star burst out of those lenses, but probably only for night time light sources. You *may* be able to tease a star burst with a sunset, but I've yet to manage it with those lenses (shooting into the sun just produces nasty flares). Maybe if I was patient enough to use a tripod and bracketing, I could tease something out in post. I'm not that patient though. I suspect the best options right now are the 24-70 or 15-30 DFA zooms.

How are you finding the A20? It's the one lens I've not yet taken out on the K-1 (to be honest, I always found it's performance on the K-3 to be somewhat lacking).

I bought it for the width (also got it for £100 so it was a no-brainer) and haven't had much chance to use it yet.
It was nice and easy to use with the K-1, I haven't pointed it at the sun yet so I'm not sure how it will compare with the 15.
But I've got a 31ltd for that which looks great on the FF.

Curious too, any other lens which are close to DA15 Starburst?

Haven't tried yet, I suspect it's not going to deliver like the DA15 in that respect.
That's one difficult lens to replace.

Both raw PP'd in Lightroom,
The colours are pretty good straight out of the camera though.
Had to lighten the House in the B&W, the sun was the wrong side.
