Grab shot taken with my favourite lens from the film days: the Pentax-A 24mm f2.8. Every blade of grass can be seen in the original.

Lovely. The fine details are very delicately rendered.

I've just sold my D810. I bought it for its 36 Mpx full-frame sensor. No point in keeping it now.

"Great explanation.
It's like somebody took all my lenses away one night and added some mystical element to them."

Nope, sorry, that explanation was all wrong. The mystical element is that the rendering of your lenses is qualitatively very different at and near the outside of the image circles they project. More vignetting, different shape bokeh balls, less resolution, it all adds up to a very different character to the images because that area is largely cropped out on APSC. It has nothing to do with perspective distortion if you are talking about equivalent focal lengths/the same angle of view. Of course the fact that wides are wide again is a big difference, but that's not what was being discussed here.

You can trust house on this one, he is the only one in this thread who understands perspective distortion with respect to sensor size/focal length. It's exclusively a function of angle of view and has nothing to do with focal length. There is a simple way to test this. Put a zoom lens on your camera mounted to a tripod. Snap a photo at the widest setting. Now zoom in (to a different focal length!) and snap another photo. On your computer, crop the wide angle shot to match the framing of the optcially zoomed shot. You will then have two shots with identical perspective distortion, because focal length does not affect perspective distortion one bit. Alternatively, put a K1 with an FA 43 on a tripod and take a shot. Now mount the FA 31 and take a shot. Crop the FA 31 shot to the framing of the FA 43 shot. Exact same perspective. No difference. Or mount the FA 43 to a K1 and the FA 31 to a K3. Crop the FA 31 shot (the FA 43 on FF will be just slightly wider than the FA31 on APSC) to match the FA 43 on the K1 and you will have the exact same perspective. No difference. Feel free to test this at home.
Hi all,

For those unaware, I had previously acknowledged the error, and thanked those who spotted it (Post #1004).

And once again, thanks to all those who have taken the trouble to type detailed explanations to correct my error. My apologies to anyone who has been misguided by it.

A lens does not have less resolution because it is used on full frame. A crop sensor throws away about 56% of the information the lens is transmitting - a full frame sensor captures that information. Now because the individual pixels are larger on the K1 than on the K3 one could argue that the sensor is capturing more resolution on the K3 - but the total amount of information the sensor captures is greater with the K1. Moreover the K3 picture must be enlarged more than the K1 which nulls that resolution advantage out.

I think we should get back to posting the results.

A couple with the Auto-tak 55/2.2 wide open (of course):

That second picture is on the edge of having "swirling bokeh". Very nice.

Amazing shots, kengoh! Especially the second one!

Has it been determined how well the DA 1.4x TC works with the K-1? I mean, obviously, this shot looks amazing. Did you have to crop it? Is it fully full frame compatible? I was thinking of getting one eventually to use with my DA*300 on the K-1.

(Apologies to kengoh for getting your name wrong!! I've corrected it. )

The DA*300 with the 1.4 TC vignettes noticeably on the K-1 in FF mode. Not a problem for me since I just crop it out.

I know old Rupert...and he's no Kengoh (Aren't his shots wonderful!) but old Rupert is pretty damn happy with what he gets from the K1!

I shot these in low light at ISO 1600 1/100 handheld and pushed them 1/1/2 stops in processing, and was well pleased.

Same settings but it was much darker and I pushed it 2/12 stops.....

This is a fine camera...in the hands of a Pro like Kengoh or an amateur like me, it is wonderful to use! I haven't had so much camera fun in ages!

Regards!
